    Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

    What is AvantDry®?

AvantDry® is a Singapore adult incontinence care brand built around one principle: that dryness speed is the most important and most overlooked factor in diaper design. Our products use DrySeal™ Rapid Absorption Technology to lock moisture away from skin in as fast as 28 seconds, helping prevent the skin damage that comes from prolonged contact with urine. AvantDry is designed for users and caregivers who want more than basic absorption — they want skin protection built into every wear.

Who are AvantDry® products suitable for?

AvantDry® products are designed for adults managing light to heavy urinary or faecal incontinence. This includes seniors living at home or in care facilities, adults with mobility limitations or post-surgery recovery needs, and individuals managing incontinence independently. All three product ranges — Core, Skinova Advanced, and Skinova MaxGuard — are suitable for caregiver-assisted use or self-managed wear depending on the style selected.

    Are AvantDry® products dermatologically tested?

Yes. All AvantDry® products are dermatologically tested, meaning the materials have been evaluated under dermatological supervision to confirm suitability for skin contact, including sensitive and fragile skin. Dermatological testing is not the same as a clinical claim — it means the product has passed standardised skin safety assessments. For users with higher skin sensitivity or a history of incontinence-associated dermatitis (IAD), we recommend the Skinova range, which is specifically formulated for skin-focused protection.

What is the difference between AvantDry Core, Skinova Advanced, and Skinova MaxGuard?

All three ranges share DrySeal™ absorption technology, but they differ in skin protection features and absorbency level:

    • Core — Everyday protection with reliable absorption. Best for moderate incontinence and users without significant skin concerns.
    • Skinova Advanced — Skin-focused comfort with enhanced breathability (AirFlex™) and DermaSoft top sheet. Best for users with sensitive skin or those wearing for extended periods.
    • Skinova MaxGuard — Maximum protection combining all Skinova skin features with the highest absorbency level and enhanced Odourshield protection. Best for heavy incontinence, overnight use, or bedridden users requiring full coverage with minimal changes.

What technologies are inside AvantDry® products?

AvantDry® products incorporate several proprietary technologies depending on the range:

    • DrySeal™ — Rapid absorption core that locks liquid away within seconds, reducing rewetting and surface moisture.
    • AirFlex™ — Ultra-breathable comfort layer that promotes airflow and reduces heat and humidity build-up (Skinova range).
    • FlowGuard™ — Dual leak guard barriers that prevent side leakage during movement or rest.
    • DermaSoft — Skin-friendly top sheet designed to be soft against fragile or sensitive skin (Skinova range).
    • OdourShield — Odour-neutralising technology to control unpleasant smells during wear (Skinova range).

What is the difference between adult diaper pants and tape diapers?

Pants diapers (pull-on style) are designed for users with some mobility who can stand or step into the product themselves, similar to regular underwear. They offer a more discreet, dignified experience and are easier for independent users to manage.

Tape diapers (open style with adhesive tabs) are designed for caregiver-assisted changing, typically for users who are bedridden, have limited mobility, or require full-change assistance. Tape diapers allow adjustable fit and are easier to change without requiring the user to stand.

Both styles are available in AvantDry's product range.

Which AvantDry® product is best for overnight use?

For overnight protection, we recommend Skinova Advanced or Skinova MaxGuard, both of which are designed for extended wear with higher absorbency and enhanced skin protection features. Skinova MaxGuard offers the highest absorbency level in the range and is best suited for users with heavy incontinence or those who cannot be changed through the night. If overnight leakage has been a recurring issue, also check that the correct size is being used — an ill-fitting diaper is the most common cause of nighttime leaks.

Which product is best for a bedridden patient?

For bedridden patients, we recommend tape-style diapers — either Skinova Advanced Tape or Skinova MaxGuard Tape — for ease of caregiver-assisted changing without requiring the user to stand or move significantly. Skinova MaxGuard offers the highest absorbency for users who may go longer between changes. Pair with a skin barrier cream or moisturiser as part of a daily skin care routine to reduce the risk of incontinence-associated dermatitis (IAD).

Can AvantDry® be used for post-surgery incontinence?

Yes. AvantDry® products are suitable for adults managing temporary or longer-term incontinence following surgery, including prostatectomy, pelvic floor surgery, or other procedures that affect bladder control. For post-surgery users who are ambulatory, pants-style diapers provide a more comfortable and discreet option. For those with restricted mobility during recovery, tape-style diapers are easier to change with caregiver assistance.

What is the difference between adult diapers and incontinence pads?

Adult diapers (also called briefs or pull-ups) are full underwear-style products that cover the entire groin area and provide protection against both urinary and faecal incontinence. They are designed for moderate to heavy incontinence or for users who need full protection.

Incontinence pads are smaller, absorbent inserts worn inside regular underwear. They are suitable for light to moderate urinary incontinence only. They are not effective for faecal incontinence and provide less coverage for heavier leakage.

AvantDry® currently offers adult diaper products (pants and tape) designed for moderate to heavy incontinence needs.

How many adult diapers do I need per day?

Most adults using diapers for moderate to heavy incontinence require 5 to 6 changes per day, depending on fluid intake, incontinence severity, and how quickly the product reaches saturation. Using the wetness indicator as a guide (rather than a fixed schedule) helps avoid both premature changes and prolonged wear. For overnight use, one high-absorbency product such as Skinova MaxGuard typically covers 7–9 hours if sized correctly and fitted properly.

Are AvantDry® products available at pharmacies or shops in Singapore?

AvantDry® products are currently available through our website at avantdry.sg, as well as on Shopee Mall, Lazada Mall, and TikTok Shop. We are currently at Pharmex and several minimarts and TCM stores islandwide. View our contact page for full location listing.

How do I choose the right size?

Measure the waist or hip circumference (whichever is larger) and match it to the size guide on each product page:

    • Medium — 80–110 cm (31"–43")
    • Large — 110–145 cm (43"–57")
    • Extra Large — 125–160 cm (49"–63")

If the measurement falls between two sizes, size up for comfort. A correctly fitted diaper should lie flat against the skin without gaps at the legs or waist, and the tape tabs (for tape diapers) should fasten in the middle of the landing zone without pulling.

How often should adult diapers be changed?

Change the product when the wetness indicator shows saturation, if it feels uncomfortable, and avoid prolonged wear to protect hygiene and skin health.

What happens if an adult diaper is too small?

A diaper that is too small will create pressure marks on the skin, restrict movement, and is likely to leak from the sides or leg openings. Tight fit also traps heat and moisture more than a correctly sized product, increasing the risk of skin irritation and IAD.

What happens if an adult diaper is too big?

A diaper that is too large will gap at the legs, causing urine to bypass the absorbent core and leak out before being absorbed. Oversized diapers also shift during wear, increasing friction and the chance of skin breakdown. If leaks are occurring despite regular changes, incorrect sizing is often the cause — check fit before assuming the product has insufficient absorbency.

My loved one keeps leaking from the diaper — what should I check?

Diaper leakage in an otherwise absorbent product is almost always caused by one of four things:

    1. Incorrect size — gaps at the legs or waist allow urine to escape before it reaches the core.
    2. Incorrect fit — tape tabs not properly secured, or leg cuffs not properly unfolded outward.
    3. Wrong product for the absorbency need — the product is reaching saturation before a change occurs.
    4. Seepage — absorbed liquid migrating back through the core under pressure and wetting outer clothing. This is different from a leak.

Check these four factors before switching products.

What causes diaper rash in elderly adults?

Diaper rash in elderly adults is almost always caused by prolonged skin contact with urine or faeces rather than by the diaper itself. When moisture sits against the skin for extended periods, it disrupts the skin's natural pH and breaks down the protective barrier, leaving the skin inflamed, raw, and prone to infection. This condition is clinically known as Incontinence-Associated Dermatitis (IAD). It is more severe in elderly adults because ageing skin is naturally thinner, drier, and slower to heal than younger skin. A fast-absorbing diaper that locks moisture away from the skin surface is the most effective prevention.

    What is Incontinence-Associated Dermatitis (IAD)?

Incontinence-Associated Dermatitis (IAD) is a form of moisture-associated skin damage caused by repeated or prolonged exposure of skin to urine or faeces. It presents as redness, inflammation, and in severe cases, open sores or skin breakdown in the diaper area. IAD is not a simple diaper rash — it is a progressive skin condition that worsens with every void if the underlying moisture exposure is not addressed. It is one of the most common and most under-recognised conditions affecting elderly adults in Singapore who use adult diapers.

How is IAD different from a normal rash?

A normal rash typically has a clear cause (allergy, heat, friction) and resolves once that cause is removed. IAD is characterised by a recurring pattern — it clears up, then returns — because the root cause (prolonged moisture exposure) is ongoing rather than a single event. IAD also tends to appear in skin folds and creases where moisture is trapped longest. If the rash keeps coming back despite regular cleaning and cream application, IAD is the most likely explanation.

How do I prevent diaper rash and IAD in elderly adults?

The most effective prevention strategy combines four elements:

    1. Fast absorption — use a diaper that locks moisture away from the skin surface quickly. The longer urine stays in contact with skin, the greater the damage.
    2. Timely changes — change the product as soon as the wetness indicator shows saturation or the user indicates discomfort.
    3. Gentle cleansing — use a pH-balanced cleanser or soft wipes during each change. Avoid harsh soaps that further disrupt skin pH.
    4. Skin protection — apply a thin layer of barrier cream (such as zinc oxide or dimethicone-based products) to protect the skin between changes.

Choosing a breathable diaper also reduces heat and humidity in the diaper area, which are contributing factors to skin breakdown in Singapore's climate.

Why does dryness speed matter in adult diapers?

Dryness speed refers to how quickly a diaper absorbs urine and locks it away from the skin surface. The faster this happens, the less time moisture spends in contact with skin — and moisture contact time is the primary driver of IAD and diaper rash. Most adult diapers eventually absorb liquid, but the speed at which they do so varies significantly between products. AvantDry's DrySeal™ technology is designed to achieve surface dryness in as fast as 28 seconds.

What is rewetting and why does it matter?

Rewetting occurs when liquid that has been absorbed into the core migrates back to the surface when pressure is applied — for example, when a user sits, rolls over, or is repositioned. High rewetting means the skin is re-exposed to moisture even in a diaper that has already absorbed a void. Low rewetting is a sign of a higher-quality absorption core that locks liquid away more effectively. Rewetting is a key performance metric in our product testing → and contributes directly to skin health outcomes during extended wear.

What is seepage and how is it different from a leak?

A leak means urine escaped the diaper without being absorbed — typically from the sides or leg openings due to poor fit or saturation. Seepage is different: the diaper absorbs the urine, but absorbed liquid then migrates back through the core under pressure and wets the user's outer clothing. Seepage can occur even in a diaper that hasn't reached full capacity, and it's often misattributed to poor absorbency when the real cause is core structure.

Can wearing adult diapers cause urinary tract infections (UTIs)?

Prolonged wear of a wet or soiled diaper can increase the risk of UTI in vulnerable individuals, particularly elderly women, because bacteria from faecal matter can track into the urethra. The most effective prevention is timely changing and thorough cleansing during each change — cleaning front to back for female users. Using a fast-absorbing diaper that keeps the surface dry reduces the moisture environment that bacteria thrive in. If a loved one is experiencing recurring UTIs, review the changing schedule and hygiene routine as a first step.

Are AvantDry® diapers safe for sensitive or fragile skin?

Yes. All AvantDry® products are made with skin-friendly materials and are dermatologically tested. For users with particularly sensitive or fragile skin — including those with a history of IAD, eczema, or pressure injuries — we recommend the Skinova range, which includes the DermaSoft top sheet for gentler skin contact, AirFlex™ breathable layers to reduce heat and humidity, and OdourShield to neutralise irritating odour compounds. The Skinova range was specifically formulated with skin protection as a primary design goal, not an afterthought.

How does Singapore's climate affect diaper skin health?

Singapore's heat and high humidity create more challenging conditions for extended diaper wear than cooler climates. Elevated temperature accelerates the breakdown of skin under a non-breathable diaper, and sweat adds additional moisture to an already humid environment inside the product. Choosing a diaper with genuine breathability — evidenced by breathable backsheet materials and good airflow design — makes a measurable difference to comfort and skin health in Singapore's climate. The AirFlex™ layer in the Skinova range is specifically designed to address this.

Do AvantDry® diapers help prevent leaks?

AvantDry® products are designed with secure fit features and dual leak guards to help reduce side leakage during movement or rest when worn correctly.

How often should an adult diaper be changed?

Change the diaper when the wetness indicator shows saturation, the product feels heavy or uncomfortable to the user, or a bowel movement has occurred. As a general guide, most moderate-to-heavy incontinence users require 3–6 changes in a 24-hour period. Avoid changing on a rigid time schedule alone — change based on product condition. Leaving a saturated diaper longer than necessary to "save" product is a false economy that significantly increases skin damage risk.

What is a wetness indicator and how does it work?

A wetness indicator is a chemical strip printed on the outside of the diaper that changes colour — typically from yellow to blue or green — when the product becomes wet. It provides a visual cue for caregivers to assess whether a change is needed without disturbing the user unnecessarily. AvantDry® products include a wetness indicator as a standard feature. The indicator reflects overall product saturation and should be used alongside comfort checks, not as the sole guide.

How do I control odour when using adult diapers?

Odour in adult diapers comes primarily from urea in urine breaking down into ammonia over time, and from bacterial activity in faecal matter. The most effective odour control strategies are:

    1. Timely changing — the most important factor. Odour increases significantly the longer a used product is worn.
    2. Fast absorption — diapers that lock moisture away quickly reduce the surface area of urine exposed to bacteria.
    3. OdourShield technology — present in the Skinova range, which neutralises odour compounds at the source.
    4. Proper disposal — fold and seal used diapers before disposal. Use a nappy bin or sealable bag if odour in the disposal area is a concern.

How should used adult diapers be disposed of in Singapore?

Used adult diapers should be disposed of in general waste (black bin bags) in Singapore — they are not recyclable. Roll the used diaper inward on itself, secure it using the tape tabs or a self-adhesive disposal strip if available, and place in a sealed bag before disposal. Do not flush any part of an adult diaper down the toilet. In HDB settings, dispose of bagged diapers in the general waste chute or bin. For households generating high volumes, a dedicated odour-seal disposal bin is a practical solution.

Can adult diaper pants be worn during light activity or outings?

Yes. Pants-style adult diapers are designed to fit like underwear and are discreet enough for use during light activity and outings. The key is correct sizing — a well-fitted pants diaper should not be visible under normal clothing and should not restrict movement. For active users, pants diapers offer more freedom of movement than tape diapers. Ensure the product has adequate absorbency for the duration of the outing to avoid the need for mid-outing changes.

What does "hypoallergenic" mean in adult diapers?

Hypoallergenic means the product is formulated to minimise the risk of triggering allergic reactions. AvantDry® Skinova range products are hypoallergenic and free from common irritants, making them suitable for users with known skin sensitivities or allergies. All AvantDry products are latex-free.

Can AvantDry® diapers be used alongside barrier creams and skin care products?

Yes. Barrier creams (such as zinc oxide-based products) can be applied to the skin before putting on a diaper and do not significantly affect performance when used in normal amounts. Avoid applying thick layers of thick ointment directly onto the top sheet of the diaper, as this can coat the surface fibres and reduce absorption speed. Apply cream to the skin only. For users at high risk of IAD, a structured skin care routine combining barrier cream, gentle cleansing, and a fast-absorbing diaper provides the most complete protection.
